the why of liminal space

Each morning I have a mandala practice. Sometimes it is the only bit of art I’m able to do each day, so I treasure the moments and look forward to seeing what will come forth. As I perused through my book, I found page after page of geometric shapes, nearly futuristic looking.

How could I bring that into my art?

That day I entered the studio around 7:30 AM, ready to paint. The painting now known as Centering stared back at me, a much-too-representational looking flower in the middle. This was not what I was going for. I picked up a French curve, and made a bold move: my darkest dark thickly painted over that flower. What had I done? But ooh! Exciting! The bold moves and geometric shapes continued until voila! A Jetson-style city was born! Add in the color palette, and the doorways from Lucid portal and Liminal Space became my own personal cityscape.
